Sager Brown Depot

February 8, 2017

The Wilton United Methodist Church sent a mission team to Baldwin, Louisiana last month as a part of their commitment to sharing God’s love in action. Twenty-four people traveled to the Sager Brown Depot, an agency affiliated with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), and spent a week being the hands and feet of Jesus in a community far from their homes.

wiltonThe team divided up to care for a number of needs. Some filled school kits and stitched school bags, while others put together health kits. They helped load semis with school and health kits going to Lebanon. Still others went into Baldwin and helped to build and install a wheelchair ramp at a local home. The church’s mission activity is featured in an article posted last week on our Iowa Conference website.

The whole church got involved in raising money for the trip, which included each person bringing $50 to buy school supplies for ten children. Annually, depot volunteers like the team from Wilton prepare about $5 million in supplies for shipment from the Louisiana facility. Although this year’s mission trip is a reminder of our duty as Christians, said member Connie Zeleny, “sometimes it feels like we were so much more blessed than the blessings we brought.”
