Lay Servant Ministry

July 6, 2016

First United Methodist Church in Fairfield is hosting lay servant classes later this month. Lay Servants support the ministries of the local church through their witness, leadership and service to inspire deeper commitment to Jesus Christ and more effective discipleship in the lives of members and new believers alike.layservant

Classes this summer will be on Saturday, July 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 24th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Students must register for both dates and attend the sessions in their entirety both days for credit. Courses being offered include Basic Lay Servant Ministry, Spiritual Gifts, and Pastoral Care. You do not need to be a Certified or Local Church Lay Servant to attend these classes. Further details may be found in this year’s brochure.

These courses are a part of our ongoing commitment in the Southeast District and the Iowa Conference to equip ourselves and others as transformational leaders. Our Strategic Priorities remind us that “when we follow and live out Christ’s example of generous love and compassion, the world will be transformed.”

The week prior to the lay servant classes the Fairfield congregation will be joining with First Presbyterian and First Lutheran Churches for Vacation Bible School, yet another leadership training opportunity—this time for their children!
