West Liberty UMC

June 1, 2016

The West Liberty United Methodist Church was one of fourteen congregations honored at our District Conference in April for mission giving. Since the church’s founding in 1858, the members of the West Liberty congregation have expressed their care for the people of God’s creation around the world through their ministries.wlumc

The church was recognized for completing third-mile giving toward the United Methodist Rainbow Covenant in 2015. The Rainbow Covenant helps congregations develop an intentional approach to funding mission.

Each color of the rainbow represents a different spectrum of mission giving. Churches who complete third-mile giving have met each of the levels of giving below.

First-mile giving recognizes payment of apportionments to the Iowa Conference in full. Second-mile giving supports projects in each of six categories:

Third-mile giving includes annual salary support of at least $2,500 for a United Methodist missionary. In addition, churches receive credit for mission giving to organizations beyond United Methodist ministries as well as local programs initiated by your church for such needs as local housing, heat, medical or transportation assistance for the needy, camperships, and scholarships.
