50 Years of Ministry at Christ UMC

December 9, 2014

Christ United Methodist Church in Davenport is using the occasion of its 50th anniversary to “develop deeper relationships within the congregation.” Mike Janes, their pastor, hopes the church will use this time of prayer and reflection together to clarify its “identity as we begin our next 50 years of ministry.”

They have organized the church in a three-step process to help every member grow in faith. They strive, first, to “experience God’s love through worship.” Second, they intentionally “develop relationships with others.” And, third, they work to “revive the world through service.”

Their primary ministry focus is their “work with children, specifically those in education.” They are working with the Davenport Public Schools “to help the many children in poverty who live all around” them.

Christ Church has also been sending mission teams to Haiti at least twice each year. Among other ministries, they do outreach for the Joseph School in Haiti on their short-term mission trips, and earnings from their Children in Poverty endowment supports children’s needs across the globe.
