Anne Wachal Directs Churches United

April 1, 2014

Anne Wachal, an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf, was recently named the executive director of Churches United of the Quad Cities Area. She has been employed there since June of 1999. Their board of directors recognized her “superior network of personal, corporate, and institutional contacts as well as her ability to work with a wide range of people.”

Churches United operates 25 food pantries and 3 evening meal sites on both the Illinois and Iowa sides of the Mississippi River. They recently celebrated 50 years of service through a variety of outreach programs. All of their services are provided by the 93 faith communities involved with the organization. More than 400 people volunteer each year to make their hunger ministries possible. The sites on average serve about 32,000 meals each year.

A Matthew 25 grant from the Southeast District, which is made possible through apportionment gifts from local United Methodist churches across Iowa, assists Churches United in purchasing food items for their hunger programs.
